Because it is the factory part, the fit is the factory fit - molded to the matching tank's rim rather than cut down from something else. At 2 pounds it handles with one hand, and the polyethylene is the same family as the tank body, so chemical exposure that the tank tolerates, the lid tolerates.
A covered tank holds its concentration, keeps dust and debris out of the work, and contains splash and vapor at the rim. For the cost of a replacement lid, an open process tank goes back to behaving like closed storage between uses. Ronco has molded these parts in Tustin, California since 1974.
