Custom Tank Fabrication for Industrial, Sanitary & Specialty Process

We engineer and source custom-built tanks across thirteen equipment categories — brewery and distillery, coffee and tea, sanitary food processing, industrial mixing, FRP and dual-laminate chemical storage, code-stamped steel, pollution control, and custom stainless to your drawing. One specification sheet, one point of contact, one accountable team.

Braubeviale The Brewing Industry S Premier Showcase — custom tank fabrication

"A stock polyethylene tank handles 90% of industrial storage. The remaining 10% — pressure vessels, sanitary process, aggressive chemistries, food and beverage, bespoke dimensions, code-stamped requirements — is where custom fabrication earns its keep. We specialize in that 10%."

Engineering Consultation, Single-Source Accountability

Custom tank fabrication is engineering before it is steel. A vessel that will hold 5,000 gallons of 93% sulfuric acid at 180°F for the next forty years begins with a materials-of-construction decision, a wall-thickness calculation, a weld-joint category selection, and a documentation package that travels with the vessel through its entire service life. Getting those decisions right, once, is what separates an industrial tank that performs from one that fails.

We work with the best custom fabricators across North America, each selected for their specific capability — sanitary stainless, ASME-coded pressure, FRP with dual-laminate liners, specialty distillation, solvent recovery, pollution control. Our role is engineering consultation, specification control, project management, and accountability. You work with one team. We coordinate the best-qualified fabricator for your specific job. Drawings reviewed, code requirements captured, inspection hold-points honored, documentation delivered. No finger-pointing, no mystery supplier in the middle, no surprises at PO.

Every custom project runs through the same disciplined workflow: requirements capture → engineering and drawings → material procurement with MTRs → fabrication with inspection hold-points → hydrostatic or pressure testing → finish verification → documentation binding → shipment. For code-stamped vessels, the Authorized Inspector witnesses critical hold points and signs the U-1 before shipment. For sanitary vessels, the surface finish is verified with profilometry and the passivation certificate ships with the vessel. For FRP, the resin system is documented against the chemical service list.

How a Custom Project Works

STEP 01

Requirements Capture

Volume, materials of construction, service chemistry, operating temperature and pressure, installation footprint, utilities, code and finish requirements.

STEP 02

Engineering & Drawings

General-arrangement drawing, bill of materials, weld-map, and code calculation package if applicable. You sign off before fabrication begins.

STEP 03

Material Procurement

Plate, pipe, fittings, elastomers ordered against approved BOM. Material Test Reports (MTRs) captured for every heat of metal.

STEP 04

Fabrication

Shell courses rolled and welded, heads formed, ports installed per drawing. Sanitary welds TIG'd with argon purge, ground to 32 Ra or better.

STEP 05

Inspection & Testing

Radiographic or UT weld inspection, hydrostatic test at 1.3x design pressure, surface-roughness verification, ASTM A967 passivation.

STEP 06

Documentation & Ship

MTRs, weld maps, NDE reports, hydro certificates, code stamps, U-1 (if applicable) bound into documentation package. Delivered with vessel.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's a 'custom' tank, exactly?

Custom tank fabrication means a vessel built to your drawing or specification, not pulled from a stock catalog. Dimensions, materials of construction, fittings, jacket type, agitation, instrumentation, finish, and certifications are all specified before any steel is cut. We quote to print and deliver with full documentation.

What materials do you work in?

304 and 316L stainless steel for sanitary and industrial service, carbon steel for coded pressure vessels and large storage, FRP and dual-laminate for aggressive chemistries, copper for distillation, and exotic alloys (duplex, super-duplex, Hastelloy, titanium) on request.

Is a code-stamped vessel always required?

No. Code requirements depend on service pressure, volume, regulatory jurisdiction, and customer quality program. Atmospheric storage tanks typically fall under API 650 for large welded tanks or ASTM D3299 for FRP. Pressure vessels ≥15 psig fall under ASME Section VIII. FRP pressure vessels follow ASME Section X. We scope to your specific requirements.

What's the typical lead time?

Small standard-geometry vessels (under 500 gal, mill finish, simple ports): 8–14 weeks. Mid-size sanitary or coded vessels: 14–22 weeks. Large field-erected or heavily instrumented code-stamped vessels: 20–36 weeks. Turnkey brewhouse or complete process packages: 22–40 weeks.

Do you handle installation and commissioning?

We coordinate delivery, rigging, and setting with regional contractor partners. Full plant installation and process commissioning (piping, controls, startup, SAT/FAT documentation) is available through our supplier partner network on turnkey projects.

What certifications and documentation ship with the vessel?

Standard documentation: Material Test Reports (MTRs) for every heat of material, weld maps with welder IDs and procedures (WPS), NDE reports (radiographic or ultrasonic inspection), hydrostatic test record, passivation certificate, and finish profilometry where applicable. Code vessels add ASME Form U-1 or equivalent stamped by the Authorized Inspector.

Can you build sanitary (3-A) vessels for dairy and beverage?

Yes. 3-A Sanitary Standards construction is standard for food, dairy, beverage, and pharmaceutical service: crevice-free TIG welds with argon purge, 32 Ra or smoother product-contact finish, drainable geometry, CIP-compatible port placement, certified elastomers. USDA-AMS plant inspection available for dairy work.

Do you partner with specific fabricators?

We partner with specialty fabricators across North America selected for their capability in specific equipment categories — sanitary stainless, code-stamped pressure, FRP + dual-laminate, solvent recovery, custom distillation, and more. Our role is engineering consultation, project management, specification control, and single-source accountability. You work with one team; we coordinate the best fabricator for your job.
