Chemical Compatibility Database
Chemical Compatibility Database
The most complete tank-material reference on the internet. Look up any chemistry and get the resin, gasket, fitting, and bolt spec that holds it — then buy the right tank from the five OEM brands we stock.
Our database covers 309+ rated chemicals and we add pillars continuously. Tell us your chemistry and we will pull the compatibility data and spec the right system while you wait.
Which tank material do I need?
Four materials cover almost every chemical. Here is the plain-English rule of thumb — every pillar page below gives you the exact OEM-rated answer for your chemistry and concentration.
HDPE
High-density polyethylene. The default for water, brines, most acids and bases at ambient temperature. Great value, widely stocked.
XLPE
Cross-linked polyethylene. Stronger wall for aggressive oxidizers and high-concentration acids — the upgrade when HDPE is borderline.
Polypropylene
Higher heat tolerance than PE. Used for hot chemistry and a handful of solvents PE will not hold.
FRP / Lined Steel
Fiberglass or lined steel for the hottest, most corrosive, or pressurized duties beyond polyethylene's window.

Last updated: 2026-05-06. Total chemicals indexed: 778 across 55 chemistry clusters. Pillars are added continuously; if your chemistry is missing, call 866-418-1777 and we will publish the compatibility brief while you wait.
How this database is built
Every rating traces back to a published OEM resistance chart — not a general rule of thumb. Each pillar documents the complete system of construction: resin grade, specific-gravity design rating, fitting material, gasket material, and bolt alloy. Order any part of the stack wrong and you create a known failure path, so we publish the whole stack.
- Snyder Industries — Chemical Resistance Recommendations (current edition): full materials-of-construction guidance.
- Enduraplas / Equistar — Chemical Resistance of Polyethylene: concentration-band ratings for 309 chemicals at 70°F and 140°F.
- ISO/TR 7472 & 7474 — polyethylene chemical-resistance classification referenced throughout.
