Six gallons is an oddly specific tank size, and its lid has to be just as specific. The 6COVER is Ronco's factory PE cover for its 6 gallon open top tank - molded to that rim, that diameter, that lip. Generic lids fail small tanks in predictable ways: too big and they slide, too small and they fall in, and either way the tank effectively runs uncovered. The factory part sidesteps the whole problem.
The tank itself is bench and small-process equipment, and at small volumes the cover's work is proportionally larger: a modest amount of evaporation or a single contamination event is a meaningful fraction of a 6 gallon batch. One pound of molded polyethylene, seated between uses, protects the batch for the cost of remembering to put it on.
Ronco molds the cover in Tustin, California in the same chemically resistant polyethylene family as the tank, part of a tank-and-accessory line the plant has produced since 1974.
