The Norwesco 1100 gallon vertical liquid storage tank (SKU 40108) is a blue vertical tank built for bulk liquid storage where overhead clearance is tight. At 87" in diameter and just 53" tall, it keeps a low profile, and it ships with no fitting installed — you choose the bulkhead size and placement that matches your plumbing instead of working around a factory outlet. A 16" lid on top gives access for filling and inspection, and the tank is FDA approved for liquid storage.

Will it work for your job?

This tank carries a 1.9 specific gravity rating — the heavy end for a vertical liquid tank. A full 1100 gallons of water weighs roughly 9,174 lb, while the tank is engineered for contents up to about 17,431 lb, which works out to liquids as dense as roughly 15.8 lb per gallon. In plain water service the walls run nowhere near their limit, and the same rating makes 40108 the step-up choice for liquids too dense for a standard-duty tank. Two checks before you order: maximum service temperature is 120 F / 48 C, so if your fill stream runs hotter than that, this tank is out — call for alternatives. And plan a pad at least as large as the 87" footprint, flat and free of rocks, since the base needs full, continuous support; our concrete pad sizing guide covers the details. Empty weight is 210 lb. The Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide will confirm 1100 gallons is the right capacity, and the blue color is a working feature outdoors — an opaque tank helps inhibit algae growth in stored water. If you would rather have a translucent natural white tank so you can check liquid level at a glance, see our buyer's guides for the white 87" x 53" versions, #42591 and #40070.

The mistake to avoid

Because this tank arrives with no fitting, the most common error is drilling the bulkhead hole too high or sizing it to the pipe on hand instead of the flow you need. Decide outlet size and position before the tank arrives, install the bulkhead low on the sidewall for full drainage, and torque it to the fitting manufacturer's spec — overtightening a bulkhead is a common cause of leaks on owner-fitted tanks. For water service, specify an EPDM-gasketed bulkhead; storing anything other than water, call 866-418-1777 first so we can match gasket material to the liquid. If this tank will feed a fire-protection reserve, read our guide on fire-water reservoir design and freeze protection before choosing fitting sizes.
