Traffic Cones
If you are writing a cone line into a bid or restocking a municipal yard, three specs decide
the order: height, base weight, and collar
configuration. Everything else is colour and legend. We stock 151 Cortina cones across
five families, 1.6 lb up to 40 lb, $2.91 to $303.45.
What height does your job actually require
18" cones are for parking lots, warehouse aisles and pedestrian routing. 28" is the size most
agencies name for roadway work. 36" is what you specify when approach speeds are high or the
taper is long enough that drivers need to read the channel from a distance. Going taller is not
free — a 36" cone weighs more, takes more truck space, and costs more to replace when it gets
run over, which on a live lane it will be.
Base weight is what keeps it standing
Wind and truck wash knock over light cones, and a cone lying on its side is worse than no
cone because crews stop trusting the line. Weight in this range runs 1.6 lb (sport and lot
marking) to 40 lb (highway). If you have had cones walk off a shoulder before, the fix is base
mass, not more cones.
Collars and legends are part numbers, not add-ons
A 28" cone bare, the same cone with one 6" reflective collar, and that cone with a 6" plus a
4" collar are three separate items. Same for molded stencils — WET FLOOR, or a specific
FDOT part legend. Get the collar count from your agency's standard drawing before you
order, because you cannot add a collar in the yard.
Families
Lamba Cones & Stands is the deepest range (73 items, 25" and 36"
including a special series). DW Series covers the everyday 18" and 28" duty.
W Series is the wide-body design. Pack N Pop collapses flat,
which matters if cones live in a pickup box rather than on a pallet. Sport Cones
are for field and lot marking where highway mass is wasted money.
Compliance
Bodies are injection-molded PVC. The range is documented to NCHRP-350 and
MUTCD. If you are on a federal-aid route, confirm which standard your contract
names before you buy — that is the specifier's call and the two are not interchangeable. Small
counts ship parcel; pallet quantities move LTL with freight quoted to your ZIP. Call
866-418-1777 if you need a quantity break or a spec confirmed against a standard drawing.
