Truck Bed Water Tanks
Pickup truck water tanks are made to sit in the bed of a truck and haul water to livestock, job sites, cabins, gardens and fire breaks. The tanks here are 210 to 425 gallons, with a low, wide shape that keeps the weight down in the bed and fits between the wheel wells. They are rotationally molded from polyethylene, with molded-in tie-down areas and a bottom outlet for a hose or pump.
Check your truck's payload first
Water weighs about 8.34 lb per gallon. A full 425 gallon tank weighs over 3,600 lb, which is more than the payload of most half-ton and many three-quarter-ton pickups. Look up the payload on your door jamb sticker and pick a tank, or a fill level, that stays under it. Strap the tank down, and drive slower than you normally would: a partly full tank sloshes and shifts the load in turns and stops.

Choosing a truck tank
- Bed size: measure between the wheel wells and the length of the bed with the tailgate closed. The 210 and 305 gallon tanks fit most full-size beds.
- Low profile: the 305 gallon low profile tank (N-44808) keeps the center of gravity lower.
- Pump and hose: add a transfer pump to fill stock tanks or spray from the truck.
- Drinking water: the Norwesco tanks are made from resin that meets FDA standards for potable water.
