Bulkhead Fittings for Plastic Tanks
A bulkhead fitting makes a sealed, threaded opening through the wall of a plastic tank. One half goes inside the tank and one outside, they clamp the wall between them, and a gasket seals the joint. That gives you a threaded port for an outlet, a drain, a fill line or a vent. This page carries bulkhead tank fittings from Norwesco, Snyder and Ronco in sizes from 1/2 inch to 4 inches.
How to choose a bulkhead fitting
- Size. The size is the pipe thread, not the hole. A 2" bulkhead fitting takes 2" pipe and needs a larger hole in the tank wall. Check the product page for the hole size before you cut.
- Material. Polypropylene (PP) fittings are the standard for water and most farm chemicals. PVC fittings are lighter-duty and best for water. Check the chemical compatibility of the fitting and the gasket before using either for chemicals.
- Gasket. Most of these fittings use an EPDM gasket, which suits water and many mild chemicals. Some chemicals need a different gasket, so ask us if you're storing anything other than water.
- Standard, heavy duty or self-aligning. Norwesco makes a standard duty and a heavy duty 2" fitting. The self-aligning fitting is made for curved tank walls.
- Installed or loose. Fittings listed as "Installed" are put in by the factory when ordered with a Norwesco tank. Loose fittings are for adding or replacing a port on a tank you already have.

Questions buyers ask
Can I add a fitting to a tank I already own? Yes. Cut the hole for the fitting size, then fit the inside and outside halves through it with the gasket and tighten. A flat area of the tank wall seals best.
