40 Gallon Rain Wizard Rain Barrel in Oak

The 40 gallon Rain Wizard rain barrel in oak, Bushman part number 600894, collects roof runoff from a downspout for the garden, flower beds and lawn. It is 22 inches wide, 21.5 inches deep and 28.25 inches tall, with a faux oak barrel shape with a wood grain texture and a flat back, so it sits tight against the house wall under a downspout. It also comes in Black, Khaki, Green and Terra Cotta.

Fittings and setup

Water comes in through a fine poly mesh screen on top that keeps out leaves, insects and small animals. The barrel has a 3/4 inch female fitting low on the barrel with a 3/4 inch brass spigot for a garden hose or a bucket. There is no upper fitting. The overflow spout faces forward, which keeps surplus water away from the foundation. Rain Wizard barrels link together for more storage with the Rain Wizard Connection Kit, part 600897, and lift onto the matching Rain Wizard stand for better hose pressure. In the box: the barrel, the brass spigot, plumber's tape and instructions.

Where it goes

Full, the barrel holds about 334 lb of water, so set it on firm, level ground, pavers or a stand, never on soft soil that can settle and tip it. Raising it a foot or so gives more pressure at the spigot and room for a watering can. Drain it and leave the spigot open before freezing weather. Rain barrels store water for outdoor use only; do not drink it.
