A 3 inch polypropylene bulkhead fitting for fast fills and drains
Part number 62299 is Norwesco's 3 inch bulkhead fitting in polypropylene, the largest common outlet size on their tank range. It passes through the tank wall, seals with a gasket on the inside, and gives you a 3 inch threaded connection on the outside for a valve, camlock or pipe. Three inches is the size to choose when a tank has to empty or fill quickly: a nurse tank feeding a sprayer, a transfer tank on a trailer, a storage tank that drains by gravity into a pump. The body is about 4 inches across and the fitting ships in an 8 inch carton by UPS.

What to check before you buy
- The size. 3 inch. Everything downstream, valve, hose and pump inlet, should be 3 inch too, or you lose the flow you paid for at the first reducer.
- The wall. A 3 inch bulkhead needs a larger flat area on the tank wall than a 1.5 or 2 inch one, at least the width of its flange. Check the fitting drawing against the tank drawing before you cut a bigger hole in a tank that came with a smaller outlet.
- The liquid. Polypropylene suits water, fertilizers and many common chemicals. For anything aggressive, check the liquid against the material first and ask us if it is not on the list.
- The weight hanging on it. A 3 inch valve and a length of 3 inch hose are heavy. Support them on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.

Installing it
Dry-fit first and turn the body so the outside thread points along the pipe run, then tighten the nut by hand plus a quarter turn with a wrench. On a big fitting it is tempting to keep going; do not, because a crushed gasket is the usual cause of a slow weep that appears a week later. Keep a spare gasket with the tank paperwork.
