A 1.5 inch CPVC threaded fitting with an EPDM gasket
Part number 34400338 is Snyder's 1.5 inch threaded fitting in CPVC with an EPDM gasket. It is the port that turns a plain tank wall into a connection: the body passes through a hole in the wall, the gasket seals it from the inside, and the threaded end on the outside takes your valve, adapter or pipe. CPVC is the choice over plain PVC when the liquid runs warmer than ordinary PVC is comfortable with, or when the rest of the plant is already CPVC. The body is about 2 inches across and the part weighs 4 lb. The 1.5 inch size is the figure the rest of your plumbing has to match, so settle it before the valve and pipe order.

What to check before you buy
- The size. 1.5 inch. Match it to the valve, hose or pipe you already have, or size the whole run first.
- The liquid and its temperature. CPVC handles water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals, and takes more heat than PVC. The EPDM gasket is wetted too, so check the liquid against both materials, and tell us the service temperature if it is warm.
- The wall. A bulkhead style fitting needs a flat area of wall at least as wide as its flange so the gasket seals all the way round. Snyder's drawing, linked on this page under Technical Drawing, gives the flange diameter and the hole size.
- Drain time. A 1.5 inch outlet empties a tank noticeably slower than a 2 or 3 inch one. If this is the main outlet of a large tank, decide the drain time you need before you drill.
Installing it
Dry-fit first. Set the fitting in the hole, turn it so the outside thread points where the pipe will run, and only then tighten, because a fitting sits in a wall that will not move afterwards. Tighten by hand plus a quarter turn with a wrench; over-tightening distorts the gasket and is the usual cause of a weep. Support the first length of pipe on its own within a foot or so of the fitting so the wall carries liquid, not the weight of a valve and a hose. Fill with water the first time so any weep shows up with something harmless in the tank. Keep one spare gasket on the shelf.
