A 10 inch vented polyethylene cap for a Snyder tank opening
Part number 34700088 is Snyder's 10 inch vented cap in high density linear polyethylene. It closes a 10 inch opening on top of a tank and lets the tank breathe at the same time: as liquid goes in, air has to get out, and as liquid is drawn off, air has to get back in, or the tank wall is working against a vacuum it was never meant to carry. The cap is 10 inches across, about 3 inches tall and weighs a pound. Polyethylene matches the tank wall, so it weathers the same way and does not react with anything the tank itself can hold. Buy it as the replacement for a cap that has cracked or walked off, or as the vented lid for a tank that came with a solid one.

What to check before you buy
- The opening. 10 inch. Measure the opening on your tank, or give us the tank part number and we check it against Snyder's drawings. Snyder's drawing for the cap is linked on this page under Technical Drawing.
- Vented or not. This cap is vented. That is what you want on a tank that is filled and emptied through fittings. If the tank has its own vent elsewhere and you need the opening sealed, tell us, because this is not that cap.
- The liquid. Polyethylene handles water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals. The vent means the headspace is open to the air, so anything that must not breathe out needs a different arrangement.
- Weather. A vented cap outdoors should be the kind that sheds rain, so water runs off rather than into the tank. Check the vent design on the drawing against where the tank lives.
Fitting it
Clean the rim of the opening before the cap goes on; grit on the seat is what lets a cap seat crooked. Fit it hand tight. If the tank is outdoors or on a vehicle, look at the cap on your next walk round and after any high wind. A cap that keeps coming loose is telling you the opening or the cap is damaged, not that it needs more force. Never block the vent to stop a drip; fix the drip and keep the tank breathing.
