Part number 34700892 is Snyder's 3 inch double flanged fitting in CPVC, bolted with titanium bolts that are encapsulated, meaning the metal is sheathed in plastic so the liquid never touches it. A double flanged fitting clamps the tank wall between two flanges drawn together by bolts, which gives an even seal all the way round and is how a large outlet is put into a tank wall without relying on a single nut. This is the fitting for the hard end of the chemical range: CPVC for the body where plain PVC runs out of heat tolerance, and titanium under a sheath where stainless steel would corrode. At 3 inches it drains a large tank quickly. The assembly is about 4 by 6 by 4 inches and weighs 4 lb.

What to check before you buy
- The size. 3 inch. Match it to the valve and pipe on the outside; a 3 inch valve is a heavy piece and it needs to be in the plan, not an afterthought.
- The liquid. CPVC body and encapsulated titanium bolts are chosen for aggressive, warm liquids. Tell us the liquid, its concentration and its temperature, and ask us to confirm the gasket for it before the order ships.
- The wall. Both flanges need a flat area of wall to bear on so the gasket seals all the way round. Snyder's drawing, linked on this page under Technical Drawing, gives the flange size and the hole the wall needs.
- Access from inside. A double flanged fitting is tightened from both sides, so you need a hand or a tool on the inside flange. On a tank with a small manway, check reach before you drill.
Installing it
Dry-fit first and turn the fitting so the outside connection points where the pipe will run. Draw the bolts up a little at a time in a cross pattern so the gasket is squeezed evenly rather than pinched on one side. Stop when the gasket is seated; a plastic flange cracked by over-tightening is the usual failure, and a nicked bolt sheath exposes the metal you paid to protect. A 3 inch valve and its pipe weigh enough to pull on a tank wall, so support them on their own within a foot or so of the fitting. Fill with water the first time and check the flange for a weep before the real liquid goes in.
