Why a flanged connection
Threaded joints are fine at small sizes, but at 3 inch a flange is easier to make up, easier to take apart for service, and easier to align without twisting the pipe. Installing it
Dry-fit the whole run first, with the flange faces meeting square and without force. A flanged joint should come together on its own; if you have to pull the pipe to make the bolts line up, the run is wrong, and the plastic will carry that strain for as long as it is in service. Tighten the bolts evenly, in a crossing pattern, a little at a time, rather than running one bolt down hard. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own bracket so the joint carries liquid and not the weight of the hardware. Check the joint again after the first fill with water, once everything has settled.
