A 3 inch threaded polypropylene vent, sold without the fitting
Part number 34100009 is Snyder's 3 inch threaded vent in polypropylene, and the four words at the end of its name matter more than anything else here: it does not include the fitting. The vent threads into a 3 inch fitting that is already in the top of the tank, or one you order with it. Its job is to let the tank breathe: as liquid goes in, air has to get out, and as liquid is drawn off, air has to get back in, or the wall is working against a vacuum it was never meant to carry. The vent is about 5.5 inches across, 4 inches tall and weighs a pound. Polypropylene matches the fittings around it and handles water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals.

What to check before you buy
- The fitting. This is the vent only. Look at the top of the tank: if there is a 3 inch threaded fitting with nothing in it, this screws straight in. If there is a plain opening, you need the fitting too, and we put both on one order.
- The size. 3 inch thread. Measure the fitting it goes into or give us the tank part number. Snyder's drawing for the vent is linked on this page under Technical Drawing.
- The liquid. Polypropylene handles water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals. The vent is open to the air by design, so anything that must not breathe out needs a different arrangement.
- How fast the tank fills and empties. A vent has to pass air as fast as liquid moves. If you fill from a large pump or drain through a big outlet, tell us the flow and we confirm this vent is enough on its own.
Fitting it
Thread it in hand tight; a plastic vent in a plastic fitting does not need a wrench, and a cracked vent body is the usual result of using one. Keep it where rain and wash-down water run off it rather than into it. Look at it on your walk round: a vent blocked by insects, dust or ice is the quiet cause of a tank wall sucked in during a fast pump-out. Never cap a vent to stop a smell or a drip; fix the cause and keep the tank breathing.
