A 4 inch polypropylene threaded bulkhead fitting with an EPDM gasket, for Snyder tanks
Part number 34100053 is Snyder's 4 inch threaded bulkhead fitting, moulded in black polypropylene and supplied with an EPDM gasket. It is the port that turns a plain tank wall into a connection: the body passes through a hole in the wall, the EPDM gasket seals it from the inside, and the threaded end on the outside takes your valve, flange adapter or pipe. Four inches is the big outlet, the one you specify to empty a large tank fast by gravity or to feed a high volume pump without starving it. The fitting is about 9.5 inches across its flange and 5 inches deep, weighs 5 lb, and ships in a small carton by UPS.

What to check before you buy
- The size. 4 inch. A 4 inch valve is a heavy piece of hardware, so plan the rest of the run around it.
- The gasket and the liquid. The EPDM gasket is the seal that touches your liquid, so check the liquid against EPDM as well as against polypropylene. Tell us what goes in the tank if the pairing is not a standard one.
- The wall. A bulkhead fitting needs a flat area of wall at least as wide as its flange, about 9.5 inches here. Tell us the tank model and we check.
- Factory or field. Buying a new Snyder tank at the same time? Ask us to have the fitting installed at the plant. A 4 inch hole cut by hand is where most leaks on a big outlet start.

Installing it
Dry-fit first. Set the fitting in the hole, turn it so the outside thread points where the pipe will run, and only then tighten the nut. Tighten by hand plus a quarter turn with a wrench; over-tightening distorts the gasket and is the usual cause of a weep. A 4 inch valve and the pipe behind it weigh enough to pull on the wall, so support them on their own close to the fitting. Fill with water the first time and check the joint inside and out. Keep a spare gasket on the shelf.
