A 6 inch PVC bolted double flanged fitting with a Viton gasket and Hastelloy encapsulated bolts
Part number 34700665 is Snyder's 6 inch double flanged tank fitting in PVC, bolted, with a Viton gasket and Hastelloy encapsulated bolts. A double flanged fitting clamps the tank wall between two flanges with a ring of bolts, which is why it is the fitting for a large opening low in a tank where the wall carries the most load. This is the version built for the harder liquids: Viton is the gasket elastomer chosen when EPDM will not hold up, and the bolts are Hastelloy, encapsulated in plastic so no bare metal is in contact with the contents. At 6 inches it is a main outlet or a large drain. The fitting is 11 inches across the flange and 6 inches deep, weighs 6 lb, and ships by UPS.

What to check before you buy
- The size. 6 inch. The valve, flange adapter and pipe downstream have to match, so settle the size first and buy the rest to suit.
- The liquid. PVC body, Viton gasket, Hastelloy bolts: three materials, and the liquid has to agree with all three. Check it in our chemical compatibility guide and, for anything hot or concentrated, tell us what it is before you order.
- The wall. An 11 inch flange needs a flat, continuous area of wall at least that wide, with the bolt holes clear of any rib or corner. Snyder's drawing, linked on this page under Technical Drawing, shows the flange, the hole and the bolt pattern.
- Access. Somebody has to reach the inside flange to install it. On a closed tank that means a manway big enough to work through; tell us the tank and we confirm it.
Installing it
Dry-fit the two flanges with the gasket between before you drill a single bolt hole, and turn the assembly so the outside face lines up with the pipe run. Pull the bolts up evenly in a cross pattern, a little at a time, so the gasket is squeezed flat rather than pinched. Do not scar the encapsulation on the bolts with a slipping wrench; the plastic jacket is what keeps the liquid off the metal. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the wall carries liquid, not hardware, and fill with water the first time to prove the joint.
