Snyder Industries PVC Sight Guage Assembly with SS Bolts and EPDM Gasket

What to check before you buy

1. The mounting. This assembly bolts on. Tell us the tank and the fitting it is going to, and we confirm the bolt pattern and the gasket match before it ships. Snyder's drawing, linked on this page under Technical Drawing, shows the assembly and its connection.
2. The liquid. PVC tube, EPDM gasket, stainless bolts. The liquid has to agree with all three; check it in our chemical compatibility guide. For a liquid that needs a Viton gasket, ask us about Snyder's other sight gauge assemblies.
3. Sun and frost. A clear PVC tube outdoors clouds over time in direct sun and, full of water, will split in a hard freeze. Plan a shade or a cover, and drain or heat trace the tube where winters are real.
4. Isolation. A sight tube is the most exposed part of a tank. A valve at the tank connection lets you shut it off if the tube is ever broken; tell us if you want one on the order.

Installing it

Dry-fit the assembly on the empty tank, plumb, with the tube running straight and clear of ladders, hoses and traffic. Pull the bolts up evenly in a cross pattern so the gasket is squeezed flat rather than pinched. Fill with water the first time and compare the tube to the tank before anything else goes in; a tube that reads low usually has a trapped air pocket at the top connection. Keep a spare gasket on the shelf.

A 3 lb assembly in a 25 by 5 by 5 inch carton, by UPS from Snyder's Lincoln, Nebraska plant when ordered loose. Fittings installed on a tank at the factory ship with the tank from that tank's plant. The listed price is before freight; the freight cost estimator gives the cost to your ZIP. Open the carton when it arrives and check the tube for cracks; a long thin box takes the knocks in a UPS trailer.
