A CPVC sight gauge assembly with threaded bulkhead fittings and Viton seals, without valves
Part number 34700973 is Snyder's sight gauge assembly in CPVC, mounted through threaded bulkhead fittings, sealed with Viton and supplied without valves. A sight gauge is the simplest level indicator there is: a clear tube on the outside of the tank, connected to the contents, so the liquid stands in the tube at the same height it stands in the tank. This version is built for the harder jobs. CPVC takes more heat than plain PVC, Viton is the seal chosen when EPDM will not hold up to the liquid, and the threaded bulkhead fittings mean it mounts through holes in the tank wall rather than onto a bolted flange. It weighs 5 lb and ships by UPS.

What to check before you buy
- No valves. The name says it and it matters: this assembly has no isolation valves at the tank connections. A sight tube is the most exposed part of a tank, and a valve at each bulkhead lets you shut it off if the tube is ever broken. Tell us if you want valves on the order, or whether you already have them.
- The mounting. Threaded bulkhead fittings pass through the tank wall and seal from the inside, so the wall needs flat areas at the top and bottom connection points. Snyder's drawing, linked on this page under Technical Drawing, shows the assembly and the holes it needs. Tell us the tank and we confirm it suits.
- The liquid. CPVC and Viton together cover a wide range, but check the liquid in our chemical compatibility guide before you order and ask us if it is not listed.
- Sun and frost. A clear tube outdoors clouds in direct sun and, full of water, splits in a hard freeze. Plan a shade or a cover, and drain or heat trace the tube where winters are real.
Installing it
Dry-fit both bulkheads before tightening anything, with the tube plumb and clear of ladders, hoses and traffic. Tighten each bulkhead nut by hand plus a quarter turn with a wrench; over-tightening distorts the seal and is the usual cause of a weep. Fill with water the first time and compare the tube to the tank before anything else goes in; a tube that reads low usually has a trapped air pocket at the top connection. Keep a spare seal on the shelf.
