Where it goes

A fertilizer or chemical storage site, a fuelling point, a wash down area, a generator pad, a nursery or a shop floor where liquids are stored in bulk. Most containment rules work the same way: the containment must hold the full volume of the largest single container inside it, sometimes with a margin on top, and rain that collects in an outdoor tray counts against that volume until it is pumped out. Check your state and local rule for the exact figure, then compare it with 1300 gallons. At 175 by 97 inches the tray takes a row of totes or a single horizontal tank with room around it to walk, read gauges and reach valves; measure the containers and the clearance you need before you order. The tray needs a flat, continuous surface under the whole base, with no drain, joint or slope beneath it, so that a full tray is supported everywhere and does not bow.

What to check before you buy

1. The volume. 1300 gallons. Compare it against the largest container the tray will hold and the rule you are meeting. If the tray will stand outdoors, plan for pumping out rain, because a tray part full of water is not full containment.
2. The footprint. 175 inches long by 97 inches wide at the outside. Make sure the containers fit inside the wall with working room, and that the pad is at least as large as the tray.
3. The sides. 22 inches tall. Containers are lifted in over the wall, so plan the handling: a forklift for totes, a crane or two people for a drum, and a loader or a crane for a tank.
4. Drains. The tray comes without a drain. If you want a drain valve to empty rainwater, tell us where and what size before the tray ships, and keep it closed and locked when the tray is in service.
5. The liquid. Polyethylene handles water, fertilizers and many common chemicals. Tell us what the tray will catch so we can confirm the material against it.

The tray ships from the nearest of Norwesco's plants in Fairfield, Texas or Shawnee, Oklahoma as an oversize load, freight class OVS: it is 175 by 97 by 22 inches and 284 lb, wider than a standard trailer bed, so it travels on a flatbed and needs a forklift or a few people at the site to lift it off. At delivery, check the part number against 42195 on the bill of lading, look over the floor and all four walls for transit damage, and set it on its pad before the first container goes in; a tray dragged across gravel with a tank already in it is how the floor gets scored.
