The Norwesco 150 Gallon Doorway Water Tank is built to pass through a tight doorway and stand flat against a wall where floor space is scarce. At 18 inches wide, 50 inches long, and 53 inches tall, this slim doorway tank slides into basements, utility rooms, garages, and equipment buildings where a round vertical tank would never clear the frame. At just 18 inches wide it passes through a standard 30-inch interior doorway upright, on a hand truck, with room to spare. It holds 150 gallons in white FDA-approved polyethylene.

Will it work for your water storage

This is a liquid storage tank rated to a specific gravity of 1.5, which gives you 50 percent of structural headroom over plain water at SG 1.0. Filled with water the contents weigh about 1,251 pounds; the tank is rated to carry contents up to 1,876 pounds at its maximum specific gravity. That margin is worth buying for a reason: it keeps the same tank viable for water-like fluids heavier than water, up to SG 1.5, rather than just plain water. For matching capacity to demand across a building or a fleet of these doorway tanks, our Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide walk you through the numbers.

Doorway design and placement

Doorway tanks trade the round profile of a standard vertical tank for a narrow, wall-hugging shape, which is the whole reason to choose this Norwesco model over a fatter tank of the same capacity. Outlet and bulkhead fitting sizes, locations, and gasket details are shown on the technical drawing on this page; confirm those before you order plumbing, or call 866-418-1777 and we will read them with you. If you are deciding between sizes in this family, the Norwesco Doorway Tank Sizing Guide: 100 to 1000 Gallon by Application and our 150 Gallon Doorway Water Tank Complete Buyer's Guide cover the trade-offs by use case.

The mistake to avoid

The most common error with a doorway tank is measuring only the doorway and forgetting the loaded weight. Filled with water, this slim 18 x 50 inch footprint concentrates about 1,251 pounds onto roughly 6.25 square feet, near 200 pounds per square foot. Many residential upper floors are rated for far less live load, so a basement slab or a ground floor over a footing is the right home for this tank, not an upstairs room. Set it on a flat, fully supported surface and never fill it where the floor cannot carry the load. For rural and remote water-reserve planning, including fire-water reservoir layout, see our fire-water reservoir design guide, and for grey-water, rainwater, and HVAC condensate aggregation see our industrial water reuse topology guide.

This Norwesco doorway tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP from the nearest stocking plant: Hanford, CA; Tooele, UT; or Washougal, WA. All three stocking points are on the West coast, so for Eastern and Midwestern addresses LTL distance is the main driver of the quote; price it to your ZIP before you commit with our Freight Cost Estimator, or call 866-418-1777 to confirm lead time and the closest shipping point for your address.
