What goes in it
Water is the normal load, and the white wall lets you see the level through it in good light. The 1.5 specific gravity rating means the tank will also hold liquids up to one and a half times the weight of water, with a maximum of 12.52 lb per gallon, so most liquid fertilizers and common household and garden solutions are within it. Keep the contents under 120 F. If the water will be drunk, keep the lid closed and the tank out of direct sun; white polyethylene lets some light through, and light grows algae in standing water, so a dark closet or basement is a better home for drinking water than a sunny window. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 1-1/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall. A valve, a hose adapter or a pump suction threads straight into it. Support the valve and the first length of hose so the fitting carries water, not hardware.
- Lid. An 8 inch threaded vented lid on top: wide enough to fill from a hose, to drop a float switch in, and to get a hand inside to clean. The vent lets air in as the tank drains, so never seal it.
