Where 750 gallons goes through a door

This is the tank for a basement, a barn, a pump house or a shop that needs serious water storage behind an ordinary door: a well holding tank where the well recovers slowly, a fire reserve at a rural property, a rainwater store under a large roof, a process water tank in a building that was never going to take a round tank. It stands 85 inches, just over seven feet, so measure the ceiling and the door header as well as the door width. Full, it is 6255 lb of water standing on an 82 by 35 inch rectangle, carried entirely by the moulded base, which is why the pad is the install: level, continuous, in full contact, with no drain, joint or lip under the footprint. What goes in it

Water is the normal load, and the white wall lets you see the level through it in good light. The 1.5 specific gravity rating, a maximum of 12.52 lb per gallon, means it will also hold most liquid fertilizers and the common solutions polyethylene handles. Keep the contents under 120 F. For drinking water, keep the manway closed and the tank out of direct sun; light grows algae in standing water. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall. A 2 inch valve, a camlock or a pump suction threads straight into it, and 2 inches drains or feeds a pump much faster than the smaller port on the small doorway tanks. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on its own so the fitting carries water, not hardware.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top: wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, to drop a float switch in, and to get an arm and a brush inside to clean. The vent lets air in as the tank drains, so never seal it.

One size down, lighter and easier to move: the 500 gallon doorway water tank. One size up: the 1000 gallon doorway water tank, which is wider than a standard door and needs a double door or a wide opening.
