The vent lets the interior breathe as the liquid level rises and falls, so the headspace does not pull a vacuum or build pressure during normal use. Assembled footprint runs about 18 x 18 inches across the outer ring, with the lid itself sized to a 16-inch opening. It weighs roughly 4 pounds.
