The Norwesco 160 Gallon HD Vertical Storage Tank is a compact, freestanding vertical storage tank molded in natural white polyethylene, standing 69 inches tall on a 28 x 28 inch footprint. The translucent natural white wall lets you read the liquid level at a glance, and the 160-gallon working capacity fits tight equipment rooms, well-house corners, and rural water-haul setups where floor space is limited but head height is available. This is the HD build rated to a 1.9 specific gravity, so it carries a heavier wall than a standard 1.0 to 1.5 SG vertical tank.

Will it work for your water?

Rated to a 1.9 specific gravity, the polyethylene wall is built to safely hold contents up to 1.9 times the density of water. For plain water that is a generous margin: a full load of water weighs about 1,334 pounds, only about 53 percent of the tank's 2,535-pound rated contents ceiling, so you have real headroom if you ever store a denser fluid up to 1.9 SG. Plan your pad and anchoring around the loaded number, not the empty weight. If you are still deciding on capacity, run the figures through our Tank Sizing Calculator and review the Tank Sizing Guide before you commit.

Siting and setup

The 69-inch height sits over a small 28-inch base, which concentrates the load onto 784 square inches: about 1.7 psi with water and roughly 3.2 psi at the full 1.9-SG rating. Any void or slope under the tank becomes a stress point, so give it full, flat, continuous support. For an above-ground install, size the slab correctly the first time using our guide on concrete pad sizing for above-ground polyethylene tanks. Building a rural or remote reservoir? Our write-up on fire-water reservoir tank design for rural and remote sites covers freeze protection and sizing discipline, and our overview of industrial water reuse tank topology helps with grey-water and rainwater collection trains. Confirm the outlet and fitting configuration you need against the technical drawing on this page before ordering, since plumbing hookups drive the rest of your layout.

The mistake to avoid

The common error with a tall, small-footprint vertical tank is setting it on gravel or an uneven surface. At the psi figures above, uneven bearing loads the polyethylene unevenly. Keep the base flat and uniform, and anchor against wind when the tank is empty. Match the tank to the job as well: this is a water and general-liquid storage tank rated to 1.9 SG, not a certified potable or food-grade vessel, so verify suitability for your specific contents before filling.
