Norwesco 2000 Gallon Plastic Multi-Use Underground Liquid Storage Tank

Which job it does

As a septic tank it takes a 4 inch inlet and outlet with the tees your code requires. As a cistern it stores rainwater, hauled water or well water below the frost line. As a holding tank it collects wastewater where there is no drain field and a pumper truck empties it. Openings, fittings and what to check before you buy

1. Manway. One 20 inch manway on top. It gives access for a pump and a float in cistern service and for pumping and inspection in septic service. Risers bring it to grade.
2. Risers and extensions. Norwesco makes a kit for this manway: 6 inch extension N-63514, 15 inch extension N-62397, 24 inch extension N-62396, a 25 inch riser with a 12 inch lid N-62395, and a 36 inch riser with a 6 inch lid N-63830. Decide your burial depth, then tell us; we put the kit on the same order.
3. Inlet and outlet. None fitted from the factory. Tell us the job and the pipe size and we confirm the fittings, the tees and where they go before the tank leaves the plant.
4. The hole. The tank is 126 by 98 inches at the body and 51 inches tall. Excavate wide enough to compact bedding and backfill evenly on all sides, on a firm, level base with no rocks under the tank.
5. Cover and traffic. Norwesco's installation instructions set the maximum cover and rule out vehicle loads over the tank. Follow them, not a rule of thumb.

Installing it

Set the tank level on compacted bedding and fill it with water as you backfill, keeping the water inside roughly level with the backfill outside so the walls are never loaded from one side alone. Backfill in lifts and compact each one. Before the fittings are covered, run water through every connection and look for weeps. Bring the manway to grade so the lid sits just above finished ground and surface water runs away from it.

The tank is oversize freight, NMFC 156600: 126 by 98 by 51 inches and 717 lb, on a flatbed from the nearest of Norwesco's plants in Lancaster, Ohio, Shawnee, Oklahoma and St. Bonifacius, Minnesota. Risers and fittings ordered with the tank travel with it. At the tailgate, check the part number against 44593 on the bill of lading and look over the ribs and the manway flange for transit damage before the driver leaves; a buried tank is the hardest one to swap later.
