Norwesco Vertical Water Tanks

Norwesco Vertical Water Tanks

Norwesco vertical water tanks are one-piece polyethylene tanks for storing drinking water above ground, from 40 gallons up to 15,500 gallons. They're molded from FDA-compliant, UV-stabilized resin and come in black or green. The opaque color blocks sunlight, which helps keep algae from growing in the water.

What people use them for

  • Backup and emergency drinking water for homes and cabins
  • Holding water from a low-yield well so the house has enough at peak times
  • Rainwater harvesting from a roof or gutter system
  • Livestock and garden water on farms and ranches
  • Water for fire protection on rural property

Sizes and features

Small tanks (40 to 300 gallons) fit in a garage, crawl space or pump house. Mid-size tanks (500 to 3,000 gallons) are the most common for homes and cabins. Large tanks (5,000 to 15,500 gallons) are for ranches, rainwater systems and fire reserves. Each tank has a lid or manway on top and an outlet near the bottom of the sidewall. Check each product's specifications for the exact diameter, height, fitting sizes and certifications.

Before you order

  • Plan the pad. Water weighs about 8.3 lbs per gallon, so a full 2,500 gallon tank holds over 20,000 lbs of water. Set the tank on a level, solid base that supports the whole bottom, such as concrete or compacted gravel.
  • Above ground only. These tanks are not made to be buried. For burial, see Norwesco Underground Water Tanks.
  • Water, not chemicals. For fertilizer, chemicals and other liquids, see Norwesco Vertical Storage Tanks, which are rated for heavier liquids.
  • Not for fuel. Don't use these tanks for gasoline, diesel or any other fuel.

Questions we get

Are Norwesco water tanks safe for drinking water?
Yes. They're molded from FDA-compliant polyethylene made for potable water. If your project needs NSF 61, check the Certifications line on the product page or call us.

Black or green: what's the difference?
Both are opaque and block light. Most people choose by looks: green blends in with trees and grass, and black is the most common.

Where does my tank ship from?
Norwesco makes tanks at plants across the country. Your tank ships from the plant nearest you that makes that size, and the freight estimator on each tank page quotes delivery to your ZIP.
