A 3/4 inch PVC bulkhead fitting, socket by thread, with an EPDM gasket
Part number 34200178 is Snyder's 3/4 inch PVC bulkhead fitting with a solvent weld socket on one side and a thread on the other, supplied with an EPDM gasket. It turns a plain tank wall into a port: the body passes through a hole in the wall, the gasket seals it from the inside, and the two ends give you a choice of how the pipe connects. The socket end takes glued PVC pipe for a permanent run; the threaded end takes a valve, a hose adapter or a threaded nipple that you may want to remove later. At 3/4 inch it is a small port, the size for a feed line, a sample tap, a sight tube connection or a small drain. It is a 1 lb part that ships by UPS.

What to check before you buy
- The size. 3/4 inch. Match it to the pipe and valve you already have, and remember that a 3/4 inch outlet empties a tank far slower than a bigger one. Our drain time comparison for 1.5, 2 and 3 inch outlets shows how much the port size matters.
- The material. PVC suits water and many common chemicals at ordinary temperatures. Check the liquid in our chemical compatibility guide against PVC and against the EPDM gasket before you order.
- The wall. A bulkhead fitting needs a flat area of wall at least as wide as its flange so the gasket seals all the way round. Snyder's drawing is linked on this page under Technical Drawing.
- Socket or thread outward. Decide which end faces the tank before you drill, because you cannot swap them once the pipe is glued.
Installing it
Dry-fit first, turn the fitting so the outside connection points where the pipe will run, then tighten the nut by hand plus a quarter turn with a wrench. Over-tightening distorts the gasket and is the usual cause of a weep. If you glue pipe into the socket, support that first length on its own within a foot of the wall so the fitting carries liquid, not the weight of the run. Keep a spare gasket on the shelf.
