The 3 inch First Flush Diverter Kit, Bushman part number 39022, diverts the first and dirtiest roof runoff away from a rainwater tank.
What is in the kit
Two pipe and wall brackets, a tee junction fitting, a screw cap with hose connector and socket, a sealing ball, a ball seat fitting, a plastic filter screen and a flow control gasket set. The chamber is 3 inch Schedule 40 PVC pipe, bought locally, which is why this is the diverter only kit.
How it works
The first runoff fills the chamber until the ball seals it, then clean water flows on to the tank. A slow release valve drains the chamber so it resets for the next rain. A longer chamber diverts more water: about 0.0125 gallons per square foot of roof where there is little pollution, up to 0.05 gallons per square foot where there is a lot.
