The Bushman 420 Gallon Plastic Vertical Rainwater Harvesting Tank (SKU 45435) is a vertical polyethylene storage tank built for capturing and holding collected rainwater at homes, cabins, farms, and remote sites. It stands 64 inches tall on a compact 47-inch-diameter round footprint, so it holds a meaningful reserve without demanding a large pad. Full of water, this tank carries roughly 3,503 pounds, and that loaded weight - not the empty shell - is what your foundation has to support.

Will it work for your site?

At 420 gallons in a 47-inch-diameter, 64-inch-tall profile, this tank suits rainwater catchment where headroom and level ground are available for a vertical cylinder. It is scoped for water and rainwater service at a specific gravity near 1.0; no elevated specific-gravity rating is published for it, so do not assume it is suitable for heavier liquids. The technical drawing on this page shows a single 1" NPT bulkhead fitting for plumbing your outlet or downspout-fed inlet. Confirm the fitting layout against the drawing before you order valves, adapters, or first-flush hardware so your connections match the tank as built. If you are still deciding how much storage your roof area and rainfall can actually supply, run the numbers with our Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide before you commit to a size.

Set it on the right base

A vertical tank of this height must sit level and fully supported. A 47-inch-diameter footprint carrying about 3,503 pounds when full concentrates real load onto the ground beneath it, so a flat, continuous, load-rated base is the difference between years of clean service and a leaning tank. Our guide on concrete pad sizing for above-ground polyethylene tanks walks through the framework for getting that pad right. For catchment design itself - including first-flush diverter sizing - see first-flush diverter sizing per the Texas Manual on Rainwater Harvesting and our overview of rainwater harvesting tank sizing by state.

The mistake to avoid

Do not plumb into a fitting you have not verified. The tank as drawn provides one 1" NPT bulkhead outlet, so inlet, overflow, and drain all have to be planned around that single confirmed port or field-added - do not order fittings for ports that are not on the tank. Because a bulkhead is a two-sided compression seal, make sure the gasket seats clean against the wall and torque it by hand, not with a wrench; over-torquing a poly bulkhead is one of the most common leak causes. Match your hardware to the fitting shown and stage your connection plan before the tank arrives.
