The Norwesco 500 Gallon 30 Degree Cone Bottom Tank (SKU N-43850) is a 1.5 specific-gravity polyethylene cone tank built for chemical batching, mixing, and metering where you need every drop to drain. The 30-degree cone bottom feeds the outlet so settled solids and concentrate clear out instead of pooling on a flat floor. It stands 85 inches tall on a 48 x 48 inch footprint and holds 500 gallons in a white tank body. A cone bottom tank is the vessel only and requires a support stand or structural frame rated for the full contents load.

Will it handle your chemical and load?

The 1.5 specific-gravity rating is the number that decides whether this tank is right for your fluid. At 500 gallons of plain water the contents weigh about 4,170 lb; the tank is rated to carry up to 6,255 lb of contents, which is what the 1.5 SG rating buys you for denser-than-water chemicals. Confirm your chemical's specific gravity at your storage concentration and temperature stays at or below 1.5 before you fill - a heavier fluid in a 1.5 SG tank overloads the wall and the stand. This tank ships without fittings; the outlet, bulkhead, and vent fittings are sized to your chemical (see the materials below) and ordered separately, so match both fittings and gaskets to the fluid, not just the tank.

Chemical compatibility

This is a polyethylene tank with a 1.5 specific-gravity rating. Polyethylene comes in two forms - HDLPE and crosslinked XLPE - that differ in chemical resistance, so confirm the resin for your specific chemical with us at 866-418-1777 before ordering. Always verify against the OEM chemical-resistance chart for your exact concentration and temperature, since compatibility is concentration- and temperature-specific.

At its 1.5 SG rating, with the noted fittings and gaskets, this tank suits: Acetic Acid at 60% (PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets), Aluminum Sulfate at 50% (PVC, EPDM), Calcium Chloride at 40% (PVC, EPDM), DEF at 32.5% (316SS, EPDM), Ferrous Sulfate at 20% (PVC, EPDM), Magnesium Chloride at 30% (PVC, EPDM), Sodium Carbonate at 30% (PVC, EPDM), Urea Solution at 50% (PP/PVC, EPDM), and Ozonated Water up to 10 PPM (PVC, EPDM). For diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) at 32.5%, run 316 stainless steel hardware with EPDM gaskets - DEF requires stainless, not brass, fittings.

Several common chemicals need a heavier-walled 1.9 SG cone bottom tank - same 500 gallon footprint, heavier wall - rather than this 1.5 SG unit: Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, and Zinc Orthophosphate. Watch the gaskets on the oxidizers: sodium hypochlorite (bleach), hydrochloric acid, hydrogen peroxide, phosphoric acid, and sulfuric acid all require Viton gaskets on the 1.9 SG tank - EPDM will fail - with sulfuric acid needing CPVC fittings and peracetic acid needing 316SS fittings with Aflas gaskets. Start with our Chemical Compatibility Database and the Tank Sizing Calculator to confirm both the chemical and the size fit.
