Part number 43850 is a Norwesco 500 gallon cone bottom tank in natural white polyethylene, 48 inches in diameter and 85 inches tall, weighing 249 lb. It is the 500 gallon cone you buy when you need a full size opening: the top carries a 16 inch threaded vented manway rather than a lid, so a hand, a brush or a mixer shaft goes in without a fight. The outlet is a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the point of the cone. The tank is rated for liquids up to 1.5 specific gravity, 12.52 lb per gallon. What to confirm before you buy
- The cone angle. The stand has to match the cone exactly, and a 30 and a 45 degree cone look alike in a yard. Norwesco's drawing for this tank, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, gives the angle; confirm it against the stand 63933 with us before the order ships. - The height. 85 inches of tank before the stand goes under it. Measure the ceiling, the door and the truck before you commit.
- The manway. 16 inches, threaded and vented. If you plan to mount a mixer or a fill assembly on the top, the manway and the flat area around it are what you have to work with; the drawing shows both.
- The outlet. 2 inch female NPT. Fit the valve while the tank is still on its side; once it is in the stand the fitting is hard to reach.
What goes in it
A cone bottom tank earns its place where the whole batch has to leave the tank: fertilizer blending, brine make-up, polymer or treatment chemical batching, and any liquid that carries solids you do not want building up on a flat floor. Polyethylene handles water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals; check your liquid in the chemical compatibility guide first. The entries buyers of this size ask about are urea solution, calcium chloride, sodium hypochlorite, phosphoric acid and hydrogen peroxide. Setting it up
Put the stand where the tank will live and level it across both diagonals before the tank arrives. Lower the empty tank in, turn it so the outlet points at the pipe run, and fit the valve. Support the first length of pipe on its own so the bulkhead carries liquid and not the weight of a valve and a hose. A full tank in a raised stand is a concentrated load on a small footprint; the floor under it is your installer's call, not this page's. Fill with water the first time.
