Who buys the heavier 500
Buy on weight when the duty is hard: a tank refilled daily rather than seasonally, a tank in a yard where equipment passes, a tank holding something near the top of the 1.5 rating, a tank that will be moved between jobs. The 68 inch height is a second reason: it clears a lower ceiling than the standard 500 and puts the lid within reach of a short step. The base is the install. Four thousand pounds and more stands inside a 48 inch circle, carried by whatever the moulded floor touches, so build it to carry the full circle in continuous contact: a poured slab, a steel deck plate, or outdoors a compacted and screeded gravel bed with fines on top and a retained edge. What goes in it
Water, liquid fertilizer and the common farm and treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads, kept under 120 F. Liquids heavier than 1.5 times water need the 1.9 heavy duty tank in this family rather than this one. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. Your valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight into it. Support the valve and the first length of pipe so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Lid. An 8 inch threaded vented lid on top: a fill hose, a float switch and a hand with a brush go through it. If you need a full manway for a submersible pump, the standard 500 gallon tank has one. The vent lets air in as the tank drains; never plug it.
