A 500 gallon white vertical tank on a 48 inch base, six feet tall
The Norwesco 500 gallon vertical liquid storage tank, part number 40148, is a polyethylene tank 48 inches in diameter and 73 inches tall, weighing 104 lb empty. Four feet of level base, with nothing shimmed under an edge
At 500 gallons the site work becomes the purchase. Up to 6255 lb stands inside a 48 inch circle, and every pound is carried by whatever the moulded floor happens to touch. Partial contact is how these tanks fail: a rock under one edge, a dip in an old slab, a pallet, a pair of rails, a timber packed in to take out a high spot. Build the base to carry the full circle in continuous contact: a poured slab, a steel deck plate, or outdoors a compacted and screeded gravel bed with fines on top and a retained edge. Set it level with an instrument and leave room around the base for two hands and a wrench at the outlet. Six feet of shell on a four foot base is a stable shape, but strap it anyway: empty, 104 lb moves in a wind across an open yard. Outdoors, plan for shade and for freezing, because a white shell passes daylight and a standing column of water freezes from the top and the wall inward. What goes in it
Water, liquid fertilizer and the common farm and treatment chemicals that polyethylene handles are the normal loads, kept under 120 F. Liquids heavier than 1.5 times water, such as some concentrated fertilizers and acids, need the 1.9 heavy duty version of this tank, not this one. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the side wall. Your valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight into it. Support the valve and the first length of pipe so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware. Tell us if you need a larger outlet and we will quote it factory installed.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top: wide enough for a submersible pump, a float and an arm with a brush. The vent lets air in as the tank drains; never plug it.
