The 65 Gallon 40 Degree Cone Bottom Inductor Tank (Norwesco, SKU N-44979) is a White polyethylene cone-bottom vessel built for batch mixing, draindown, and chemical induction work where you need the tank to empty completely through its apex. Rated to a 1.5 specific gravity, it holds 65 gallons in a compact 27" round footprint and stands 43" tall. The 40-degree cone is a shallower angle than the 45- and 60-degree cone-bottom inductor tanks covered in our buyer's guides, so plan your stand height and drain-down geometry around this specific cone. The factory fitting is a single 2" NPT MALE thread at the cone outlet - your mating valve, union, or downstream line must be 2" NPT FEMALE in the correct material for your fluid, so confirm that before you order.
Will it work for your application
Sizing is the first thing to get right. Filled with water, this tank carries about 542 lb; at its maximum rated 1.5-SG contents it carries roughly 813 lb. A cone-bottom tank cannot stand on its cone unassisted, so it must sit in a stand or ring rated for that loaded weight. The 27" round footprint clears a standard doorway on a hand truck, but the 43" overall height plus stand clearance needs headroom under your fill or dispensing point - measure that before delivery. Use our Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide to confirm the 65-gallon working volume, height, and stand rating fit your batch size and frequency. If you are weighing this against other cone-bottom inductor sizes, our buyer's guides for the 35-gallon, 60-gallon, 80-gallon, and 15-gallon cone-bottom inductor tanks walk through the tradeoffs. See the technical drawing on this page for the cone profile and outlet location.
Chemical compatibility
This is a polyethylene tank rated to 1.5 specific gravity. The resin is recorded as HDLPE but flagged unconfirmed - confirm HDLPE versus XLPE with us before committing this tank to chemical service, because the resin choice changes what it can safely hold. At the 1.5-SG rating, the following are compatible at the listed concentrations, paired with the correct fitting and gasket materials: Acetic Acid (60%, PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets), Aluminum Sulfate (50%, PVC, EPDM), Calcium Chloride (40%, PVC, EPDM), DEF (32.5%, 316SS fittings, EPDM), Ferrous Sulfate (20%, PVC, EPDM), Magnesium Chloride (30%, PVC, EPDM), Sodium Carbonate (30%, PVC, EPDM), Urea Solution (50%, PP/PVC, EPDM), and Ozonated Water (up to 10 PPM, PVC, EPDM). Because the tank outlet is 2" NPT male, your mating fitting must match the chemical - for example PVC for aluminum sulfate, 316SS for DEF - in 2" NPT female. See the individual pages for acetic acid, aluminum sulfate, calcium chloride, ferrous sulfate, magnesium chloride, sodium carbonate, and urea solution, plus the full Chemical Compatibility Database. Always verify against the OEM chemical-resistance chart for your exact concentration and operating temperature - compatibility is concentration- and temperature-specific.
Chemicals that need a higher-SG tank
The decision rule is simple: if your chemical appears in this list, do not buy the 1.5-SG N-44979 - order the 1.9-SG cone-bottom version so the wall thickness matches the fluid density. The three highest-volume chem-induction fluids all fall here: sodium hypochlorite (bleach; PVC fittings, Viton gaskets), sulfuric acid (CPVC fittings, Viton), and hydrochloric acid (PVC, Viton). Also requiring the 1.9-SG tank are phosphoric acid (Viton), hydrogen peroxide (Viton), peracetic acid (316SS, Aflas), hydrofluoric acid (Viton), hydrofluosilicic acid (Viton), ferric chloride, ferric sulfate, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, polyaluminum chloride, potassium hydroxide, potassium carbonate, sodium bisulfate, sodium bisulfite, sodium thiosulfate, and zinc orthophosphate. Note the gasket pairings: Viton for the oxidizers and strong acids, Aflas for peracetic acid - do not default those to EPDM. Matching the SG rating to your fluid is the single most common mistake on cone-bottom inductor tanks, and it is what to get right before you buy.
