The Chemtainer 30 Gallon 20 Degree Open Top Cone Bottom Tank (SKU TC1840AP) is a compact vertical polyethylene tank built for full-drain chemical batching and mixing. The 20-degree cone bottom and included poly stand let the tank empty completely through the bottom cone, so solids and slurries don't settle and stay trapped. At 40 inches tall on an 18-inch diameter footprint, this 30 gallon tank fits tight process areas while carrying a 1.5 specific gravity rating for heavier-than-water chemistry.

Will it work for your application

This is an open-top design with an 8-inch lid opening for filling, hand access, and visual level checks. Empty, the tank weighs 31 pounds. Filled with water it carries about 250 pounds; loaded to its maximum rated contents at 1.5 specific gravity it holds roughly 375 pounds, so build your stand pad and anchoring to that figure, not the water number. The 18-inch diameter footprint keeps the load concentrated, so confirm your floor or curb can take a point load. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide to match this 30 gallon cone-bottom vertical to your batch volume and drain-down cycle.

Chemical compatibility

The tank is molded polyethylene rated to 1.5 specific gravity. The resin is recorded as HDLPE pending confirmation, so before you commit to any chemical service confirm HDLPE versus XLPE with us, since that changes what this tank should hold. Compatibility below comes from the Snyder Industries OEM chemical-resistance chart and is concentration- and temperature-specific; confirm your exact chemical, concentration, temperature, and fitting and gasket materials with us first. Within its 1.5 SG rating this tank suits Acetic Acid (60%), Aluminum Sulfate (50%), Calcium Chloride (40%), DEF (32.5%), Ferrous Sulfate (20%), Magnesium Chloride (30%), Sodium Carbonate (30%), Urea Solution (50%), and Ozonated Water (up to 10 PPM, PVC fittings with an EPDM gasket). Most of these call for PVC fittings with EPDM gaskets. DEF (required SG 1.35) and Urea Solution (required SG 1.35) both sit under the 1.5 rating with headroom to spare; DEF pairs with 316SS fittings and an EPDM gasket, while Acetic Acid and Urea run PP or PVC. Full details are in our Chemical Compatibility Database.

What needs a higher-SG tank

Several common process chemicals exceed this tank's 1.5 rating and need a 1.9 SG tank instead. Do not run them here, but we can spec the 1.9-rated equivalent for you: Sulfuric Acid (98%, CPVC fittings and Viton), Hydrochloric Acid (37%), Sodium Hypochlorite (<16.5%), Ferric Chloride (50%), Phosphoric Acid (85%), Hydrogen Peroxide (50%), Peracetic Acid (30%, 316SS fittings and an Aflas gasket), Ethylene Glycol, and Potassium Hydroxide, among others. Fitting and gasket materials vary per chemical across this group, spanning PVC, CPVC, PP, and 316SS with EPDM, Viton, or Aflas gaskets, so match them to the exact fluid rather than assuming one set covers all. The mistake to avoid on this tank: spec the outlet, fitting, and gasket to the fluid, and never push a 1.9-SG chemical into a 1.5-SG tank.
