The Chemtainer 15-gallon 20-degree open-top cone-bottom tank (SKU TC1519CA) is a compact vertical batch vessel built for full-drain chemical work where you cannot leave residue in the bottom. It stands 19" tall on a 15" diameter cylinder body, weighs 10 lb empty, and molds from polyethylene rated to 1.5 specific gravity. The 20-degree cone lets thick or settling solutions run to the outlet under gravity, and the removable 8" lid gives you open-top access for hand-fill, mixing, and cleanout. This is a Chemtainer vertical open cone-bottom tank sized for small-volume dosing, day-tank, and lab-scale chemical handling.

Will it hold your chemical

Two facts govern the buy.First, there is no flat bottom: a 20-degree cone-bottom tank cannot free-stand, so it MUST be carried in a matching cone stand or frame that supports the full weight on the cone. The 15" diameter is the cylinder outside dimension, not a floor footprint.Second, the 1.5 specific-gravity rating sets your weight ceiling.Filled with water, 15 gallons weighs about 125 lb; against the 1.5 SG rating that is 125 lb water x 1.5 = 188 lb of maximum rated contents.Match your fluid's weight to that number before you buy — a heavier-than-water chemical eats into usable volume, and any fluid above 1.5 SG needs a higher-rated body, not this one.Remember 15 gallons is nominal; usable working volume is less once you leave freeboard for the fill and vent.Size the batch with our Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide, plan top penetrations early with our guide on tank-top fitting placement, and if you are weighing cone angles, the cone-bottom angle buyer's guide explains why a steeper cone drains faster.

Chemical compatibility

This tank is polyethylene rated to 1.5 specific gravity. The resin is listed as HDLPE but not yet confirmed, so confirm HDLPE vs XLPE with us before committing it to chemical service — the two resins behave differently against solvents and oxidizers.Compatibility below comes from the Snyder Industries OEM chemical-resistance chart and is concentration- and temperature-specific; confirm your exact chemical, concentration, temperature, and fitting and gasket materials before ordering.Within the 1.5 SG rating this tank suits:

Several common chemicals — Sodium Hypochlorite, Sulfuric Acid, Hydrochloric Acid, Ferric Chloride, Hydrogen Peroxide, Phosphoric Acid, Ethylene Glycol, and others — call for a higher-SG 1.9 build, and most also change gasket chemistry: sodium hypochlorite, sulfuric, HCl, hydrogen peroxide, and phosphoric need Viton rather than EPDM, sulfuric needs CPVC fittings, and peracetic acid needs Aflas.Stepping up is a different gasket-and-fitting spec, not just a heavier tank — ask us for the 1.5 SG cone-bottom plus Viton hardware package.Full detail lives in our Chemical Compatibility Database.

The mistake to avoid

The most common error on a small cone-bottom chem tank is treating the 1.5 SG rating as a suggestion.Sodium hypochlorite, sulfuric acid, and ferric chloride all read "compatible with polyethylene" on generic charts, yet each needs the 1.5 SG build with Viton hardware — putting them in this tank shortens its life and risks a failure at the cone. The second trap is metallurgy: DEF sits comfortably under the SG rating, but it demands 316SS wetted fittings, not PVC or PP, because DEF purity is destroyed by the wrong metal.Spec the outlet hardware to the fluid, not to habit.
