Why the Canadian build

Two manholes is the difference. Canadian plumbing authorities commonly want access over both the inlet and the outlet of a buried tank, so this build carries a 20 inch manway at each end and the riser kit is sized for two. As a septic tank, 1000 gallons is a common minimum for a small to mid size house; your provincial or municipal authority decides, and they approve tanks by model, so send them the number 41736 and Norwesco's drawing, linked on this page under Technical Drawing, before you order. As a pump tank or a holding tank it sits downstream of a septic tank or stands alone where there is no drain field. What to check before you buy

1. The hole. 102 by 60 inches at the tank, plus working room, 63 inches of tank plus bedding below and enough cover above for your frost depth. Measure the gravity line from the house to the inlet before the excavator arrives.
2. The pipe. The inlet and outlet are 4 inch openings. Tell us whether you need the tee assemblies and gaskets with the tank; we confirm what ships inside before the order goes.
3. Access at grade. Two 20 inch manways. Norwesco makes risers and extensions for them, two of each for this tank: a 6 inch extension N-63514, a 15 inch extension N-62397, a 24 inch extension N-62396, a 25 inch riser with a 12 inch lid N-62395, and a 36 inch riser with a 6 inch lid N-63830. Tell us the burial depth and we will put the right pair on the order.
4. Traffic. A polyethylene underground tank goes under lawn, not under a driveway. If anything heavier than a mower will cross it, say so before you order.
5. Water table. An empty buried tank floats. If the site is wet, talk to us and your installer about the backfill and anchoring plan before the hole is dug.

Setting it

Follow Norwesco's installation instructions that ship with the tank. The usual sequence is a level bed of sand or fine gravel, the tank set and checked level across both diagonals, the pipe connected, then water added to the tank as the backfill goes in around it, in lifts, so the ribbed walls are loaded evenly from both sides. Keep sharp rock and frozen lumps out of the backfill. Fill with clean water to the outlet before the system goes into service.

The tank ships LTL from the nearest of Norwesco's Owego, St. Bonifacius, Washougal or Lancaster plants, 102 by 60 by 63 inches and 388 lb on the pallet. The listed price is before freight; the freight cost estimator gives the lane cost, or request a written quote for a cross-border delivery so brokerage is settled before the truck leaves. Risers ordered with the tank travel with it. At the tailgate, check the part number against 41736 on the bill of lading, look inside for whatever plumbing was ordered with it, and walk round the shell for transit damage before the driver leaves.
