Where it goes and who signs off

A septic tank is a permitted installation everywhere in the country, and the permit is issued locally against a state list of approved tanks. Norwesco lists this tank with state septic approval in Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Utah and Washington. If your site is in one of those states, take the part number to the county health or environmental office before you order; if it is not, call us, because Norwesco builds this size under other part numbers with approvals in other states and we will point you to the right one. What to check before you buy

1. The hole. 135 inches long and 55 inches wide, plus room around it for bedding and compaction. The 70 inch height plus the cover your code requires sets the depth, and that depth has to work with the elevation of the sewer line leaving the house: the inlet sits below the line with fall to spare.
2. Inlet and outlet. Both are 4 inch adapter and PVC tee assemblies. The tee at the inlet drops incoming flow below the scum layer; the tee at the outlet draws from the clear zone. Your 4 inch sewer pipe connects to each adapter.
3. Access. Two 20 inch gasketed manways. Most codes require access at grade, so plan on a riser and lid over each manway to bring both to the surface; tell us the burial depth and we will quote the risers with the tank.
4. Groundwater. An empty polyethylene tank in wet ground floats. Follow Norwesco's installation instructions on bedding, backfill and filling, and never leave the tank pumped empty when the water table is high.

The tank ships LTL from the nearest of Norwesco's plants, 135 by 55 by 70 inches and 468 lb, on a flatbed or a trailer with the length for it. The listed price is before freight; the freight cost estimator gives the lane cost to your ZIP. Have a machine on site to lift it off; the driver does not unload a tank this size by hand. Before the truck leaves, check the part number against 41758 on the bill of lading, walk the length of the tank for gouges or a cracked rib, open both manways and look inside, and check that both tee assemblies and the manway gaskets are present. Set the tank in the hole the same day if you can; a tank sitting on a yard for weeks picks up the damage that shows up as a leak later.
