The Norwesco 2500 Gallon Black Vertical Water Storage Tank is a polyethylene vertical water tank built for bulk water storage where you need real volume in a compact footprint. It holds 2,500 gallons, stands 86 inches tall, and sits on a 98-inch diameter base - a 98.0 x 98.0 footprint that fits within a standard pad or a tight equipment yard. The black exterior blocks sunlight, which suppresses algae growth and makes it a practical choice for outdoor water storage, irrigation supply, livestock water, and rural fire-water reserve duty.

Will this tank work for your water?

\n

This is a vertical storage tank rated at a 1.0 specific gravity, which means it is engineered for water and water-weight contents - not heavier chemical solutions. Filled to capacity, the tank carries roughly 20,850 pounds of water, and that full water weight is also the maximum rated contents weight. Plan your base accordingly: 2,500 gallons of water is more than ten tons sitting on a 98-inch circle, so the tank must rest on a level, fully supported, load-rated foundation. For exact port and fitting locations, see the technical drawing on this page. If you are still deciding on volume, run the numbers with our Tank Sizing Calculator or read the Tank Sizing Guide before you commit to a size.

Common uses and sizing notes

\n

At 2,500 gallons this is a workhorse size for private water systems - hauled-water cisterns, well-buffer storage, rainwater and water-reuse collection, and the static reservoir behind a rural fire pump. If you are building a remote or cold-climate supply, our guide on fire-water reservoir tank design covers NFPA 22 sizing discipline and freeze-protection engineering, and the industrial water reuse tank topology guide walks through grey-water, rainwater, and HVAC condensate aggregation. For a deeper look at this exact tank, see our 2500 gallon black 98 x 86 buyer's guide.

The mistake to avoid

\n

The most common error on a tank this size is treating the 1.0 specific gravity rating as a formality. It is not. This tank is sized for water; if you intend to store a heavier-than-water liquid, you need a tank rated for that higher specific gravity, not this one. The second mistake is the foundation - an under-built or unlevel pad concentrates more than 20,000 pounds unevenly and shortens tank life. Build the pad first, level it, and size it to the full 98-inch footprint.
