Ten tons of water: what the site has to provide

At 2500 gallons the tank is no longer the hard part of the job; the ground under it is. Full, it puts more than ten tons through a 95 inch circle, carried by a moulded floor that bears on everything it touches and nothing else, so the base must be flat, level, continuous, engineered and poured wider than the tank, and a hollow under the middle or a soft corner becomes the bearing point the day the tank fills. Run the overflow to daylight well away from the pad, because a tank this size washing out one edge of its own footing is the usual failure on farm installs. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall. A 2 inch valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight in. Support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own, and use a flexible connector between the fitting and rigid pipe so the wall can move as the level changes without loading the fitting.
2. Inlet. A 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting for the fill line, a float valve or the overflow.
3. Manway. A 16 inch vented manway on top: wide enough to fill from a hose or a pump, drop a float in, and get a hand and a brush inside to clean. The vent lets air in and out as the level changes; never plug it.
