Norwesco Underground Water Tanks
Norwesco underground water tanks are one-piece polyethylene tanks made to be buried. They range from 225 gallons up to 20,000 gallons. Buried tanks stay out of sight and out of the sun, and they don't take up space in the yard. This category includes underground water cisterns, multi-use underground tanks and large underground holding tanks.

Styles and sizes
- Underground water cisterns (225 to 5,025 gallons) are white, molded from FDA-compliant polyethylene, and made for water storage.
- Multi-use underground tanks (1,000 to 10,000 gallons) list IAPMO approval on most product pages.
- Large underground tanks (15,000 and 20,000 gallons) are for big water reserves and ship from St. Bonifacius, MN.
Most mid-size tanks have a 20 inch manhole. To bring a lid up to grade, Norwesco makes 6, 15 and 24 inch manhole extensions and risers with lids. The 2,650 gallon tank and one 5,025 gallon tank come with a manhole extension molded on. Check each product's specifications for the exact dimensions, manways, inlet and outlet, and certifications.
Before you order
- Below ground only. These tanks are made to be buried and are not for above-ground use. For a tank that sits on a pad, see Norwesco Vertical Water Tanks.
- Follow the install guide. Dig, bed and backfill the way Norwesco's installation instructions for your tank call for.
- Plan the lid height. Measure how deep the top of the tank will sit, so you can order the right extension or riser.
- Not for fuel. Don't use these tanks for gasoline, diesel or any other fuel.
Questions we get
Can I store drinking water in a buried tank?
The cisterns are molded from FDA-compliant polyethylene. If your project needs NSF 61, check the Certifications line on the product page or call us.
How do I get the lid up to ground level?
Add a manhole extension or riser. The Riser & Extension Options line on each tank page lists the parts that fit. You'll also find lids and risers in Norwesco Accessories.
Do you have Norwesco septic tanks?
