What it is for
A 2600 gallon buried tank is a household cistern on hauled or harvested water, a rainwater store that keeps the collection out of sight and out of the sun, or a septic or holding tank for a house or a cabin. Underground, the water stays cool and dark, which stops algae and keeps it from freezing where the cover allows. What to check before you buy
- The hole. The tank is 155 inches long, 99 wide and 51 tall before the riser. Bed and backfill it to Norwesco's installation instructions: a polyethylene tank is backfilled with water in it, in lifts, so the wall is supported from both sides as the hole closes. A high water table is the case where the instructions matter most, because an empty tank in wet ground wants to float.
- Getting the cover to grade. One manhole, 20 inch cover. Norwesco's options for it, one each: the 6 inch extension N-63832, the 15 inch extension N-63833, the 24 inch extension N-63834, the 23 inch riser with a 12 inch lid N-63831, the 36 inch riser with a 6 inch lid N-63830, and a replacement 20 inch lid N-63672. Decide the burial depth, then tell us which one; it ships with the tank.
- Traffic. Tell us if anything heavier than a lawn mower will cross the tank. Burial depth, cover and traffic loading are decided together, and Norwesco's instructions set the limits.
- Inlets, outlets and vent. The tank is supplied with the manway cover; the connections are cut and fitted on site to suit your plumbing. Norwesco's drawing, linked under Technical Drawing on this page, gives the manhole position and the rib layout.
