Where it goes

An open top cone is the tank for a batch that is made up, used and drained: fertilizer and chemical blending, dosing make-up, wash-down and rinse water, settling solids out of a process stream, and any job where the last gallon matters because it is product or because it is waste you have to remove. The 20 degree cone is the shallow end of the cone range. It drains and it clears light solids, and it keeps the tank short enough to go under a mezzanine or a low ceiling once it is in its stand; a steeper cone drains faster and clears heavier solids at the cost of height. What goes in it

Polyethylene handles water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals, and the 1.5 rating covers the common blending liquids. Before anything goes in, check it in our chemical compatibility guide; the entries for urea solution, calcium chloride, aluminum sulfate, sodium carbonate and acetic acid are the ones cone tank buyers ask about most. A liquid heavier than 1.5 times water needs a heavier rated tank, not this one; if yours is close to the line, tell us the liquid and the concentration and we will say which tank. An open top means the contents are open to the air, so anything that fumes, splashes or must stay clean wants a loose cover, and nothing that reacts with rain goes in an outdoor open top tank.

Openings and fittings

1. Top. Fully open, 52 inches across the shell. Mount an agitator on a cross bar over the rim, not on the wall, and keep a loose cover on it between batches.
2. Outlet. The cone drains to a single low point. A factory fitting is not listed for this tank, so tell us the valve size you want when you order and we will confirm what comes installed at the cone and what we fit before it ships. Dry-fit the outlet before tightening; a bulkhead in a cone sits at an angle and wants to be lined up with the pipe before the nut goes on.

Shipping and receiving

The tank ships LTL under NMFC 156600-02, 52 by 52 by 64 inches and 165 lb, from Chem-Tainer's plant in Merced, California, or West Babylon, New York, whichever is nearer, so the lane cost differs a good deal between the coasts. At the tailgate, check the part number against TC5264CA on the bill of lading, look at the cone tip and the rim for transit damage, set the tank in its stand on a level floor, fit the outlet valve, and fill with water the first time so any weep at the cone shows up with something harmless in the tank.
