Chemical compatibility

This tank is polyethylene rated to 1.9 specific gravity, which is the highest density rating offered in polyethylene - there is no higher-SG poly tank to step up to, so if your chemical exceeds 1.9 SG the tank is the wrong material class and you should call us before buying. The resin is recorded as HDLPE with a trailing question mark in our data, so confirm HDLPE versus XLPE with us before committing to chemical service; crosslinked and linear polyethylene behave differently with certain oxidizers, and the right grade matters. Within the 1.9 SG envelope this tank suits a broad range of water-treatment and industrial chemicals. Acids include acetic acid (60%, PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets), hydrochloric acid (37%, PVC, Viton), hydrofluoric acid (48%, PP/PVC, Viton), hydrofluosilicic acid (26%, PP/PVC, Viton), phosphoric acid (85%, PVC, Viton), and sulfuric acid (98%, CPVC, Viton). Coagulants and salts include aluminum sulfate (50%), ferric chloride (50%), ferric sulfate (60%), ferrous sulfate (20%), calcium chloride (40%), magnesium chloride (30%), polyaluminum chloride, and zinc orthophosphate (all PVC or PP/316SS, EPDM). Bases and reducers include sodium carbonate (30%), potassium carbonate (50%), potassium hydroxide (saturated), sodium bisulfate, sodium bisulfite, and sodium thiosulfate (40%) on PVC/PP with EPDM. Oxidizers demand Viton seals: hydrogen peroxide (50%, PVC) and sodium hypochlorite (under 16.5%, PVC) - the classic mistake on a bleach tank is fitting it with EPDM instead of Viton and watching the seals degrade. Peracetic acid is the outlier in this set: peracetic acid (30%) requires 316 stainless fittings and Aflas gaskets, not the PVC and EPDM that cover most of the others. Fluids and glycols include DEF (32.5%, 316SS fittings, EPDM), urea solution (50%, PP/PVC), ethylene glycol (100%, PVC), and propylene glycol (PP/316SS), plus ozonated water up to 10 PPM (PVC, EPDM). For DEF storage, note the 316 stainless requirement on wetted fittings - DEF attacks ordinary steel and brass, so plastic or 316SS is the rule with EPDM seals. Match the fitting and gasket material to your chemical exactly; the wrong elastomer is the most common and most expensive error on a chemical tank.
