A 16 inch strainer basket for Norwesco 16 inch manways
Part number 67374 is Norwesco's 16 inch strainer, a black polyethylene basket made to sit in a 16 inch manway opening. It is 16 inches across and 7 inches deep and weighs 3 lb. Its job is simple: whatever you pour or pump into the tank through the manway passes through the basket first, and leaves, grit, labels and dropped hardware stay in the basket instead of settling at the outlet. On a rainwater tank it is the last catch before the stored water; on a fertilizer or chemical tank it keeps the solids that clog a nozzle out of the tank in the first place. What to check before you buy
- The manway size. 16 inches. It is on your tank's page under Lid Size. A basket for a 16 inch opening will not seat in a smaller one and will fall through a larger one.
- The depth. 7 inches. That is how far the basket hangs into the tank below the opening. If a float, a suction line or a mixer sits just under the manway, check that the basket clears it.
- What you are catching. A basket strainer holds back leaves, grit and debris you can see. It is not a filter for fine sediment or a screen against insects on its own; the lid still has to close over it.
- Access. Anything the basket catches has to be lifted out, so the manway needs to be somewhere a person will actually stand with a bucket. A basket nobody empties becomes a dam.

Using it
Set the basket in the opening with the rim resting evenly on the manway and the lid closed over it. On a rainwater tank fed from a downspout, lift it after the first heavy rain of the season; that is when a summer's worth of roof debris arrives at once. On a tank you fill from a truck or a transfer pump, look in the basket before each fill and after it. Rinse it with a hose; polyethylene cleans easily and will not rust or hold a smell. Keep the basket in the tank even when you are only drawing down, so a dropped cap or a tool ends up in the basket rather than at the outlet fitting.
