Where it goes
A pair of saddle tanks on a tractor is the usual way to carry starter fertilizer or spray mix to a planter or a toolbar without towing anything. At 57 inches long and 24 inches wide the tank sits in a frame alongside the engine or on a rear platform, and at 28 inches tall it keeps the load low. Full of water it carries 834 lb on top of the 36 lb tank, and more with fertilizer, so the mounting frame and the tractor's rating decide the pairing, not the tank. What goes in it
Liquid fertilizer, water and the common farm chemicals that polyethylene handles. Before anything goes in, check the liquid in our chemical compatibility guide; the entries for urea solution, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, DEF and aluminum sulfate are the ones saddle tank buyers ask about most. The 1.5 rating means a liquid up to 1.5 times the weight of water, 12.52 lb per gallon; most starter fertilizers sit under that, but check yours. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 3/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed. A 3/4 inch outlet matches the feed line on most planter pumps and orifice systems; your shutoff valve or hose barb threads straight into it. Support the valve and the first length of hose so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Inlet. None. Fill through the lid, or add your own bulkhead fitting if you want a plumbed fill; dry-fit it before tightening.
- Lid. An 8 inch threaded vented lid, wide enough to fill from a hose or a jug and to get a hand inside to rinse.
