The Norwesco 3000 gallon heavy duty vertical storage tank, part number 40755, is a light blue high density linear polyethylene tank 95 inches in diameter and 109 inches tall, weighing 520 lb empty. It is the standard-footprint 3000: taller and narrower than Norwesco's low profile version, so it fits a smaller pad. It comes with a 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting as the outlet, with a 2 inch reducer so you can plumb either size, and a 16 inch threaded vented manway on top. Heavy duty means a 1.9 specific gravity rating, 15.87 lb per gallon: 3000 gallons of water weighs 25020 lb, and a liquid at the rating limit can take the contents to 47538 lb. Where it goes
This is the workhorse 3000 gallon vertical: fertilizer at a dealer or a farm, brine and treatment chemicals at a water plant, process liquids in a shop, and bulk water where the buyer wants the heavy duty wall for margin. The 95 inch diameter needs a flat, level, continuous pad to match, because a polyethylene tank carries its load on the full bottom, not on a ring. At 109 inches tall, filling and inspection from the manway need a platform or a ladder, so plan the fill pipe and a level gauge at the outset. What goes in it
Polyethylene handles water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals, and the 1.9 rating admits the dense ones. Check the liquid in our chemical compatibility guide before the first fill. Anything hotter than 120 F is outside the rating; exothermic blends and hot process water are the usual ways a tank gets there without anyone meaning it to. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall, with a 2 inch reducer. Use the full 3 inch for fast transfer to a nurse tank or a sprayer; thread the reducer in for a 2 inch valve and hose. Either way, support the valve and the first length of pipe on their own so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top for filling, a float or a level sensor, and cleaning access. Keep the vent clear; a pump pulling from a tank with a blocked vent will collapse the wall.
