The Snyder Industries 34100191 is a 14 inch strainer basket moulded in black polypropylene. It measures 14 inches long, 14 inches wide and 5 inches tall and weighs 5 lb. A strainer basket is a coarse catch: it sits in the incoming flow, holds back what you can see, and lifts out by hand to be emptied. It is not a filter. What it is for
Leaves, grit, insects and roof debris are easy to catch at the top of a tank and hard to get out once they are inside. Inside, they settle into a sludge layer, feed algae, and end up in the pump or the outlet. A basket you can lift out with one hand turns that cleanup into a minute of work after a storm. At 14 inches across and 5 inches deep it is a wide, shallow shape: it gives the flow plenty of area, so it is slow to choke, and it is easy to reach into and empty. The trade is that it holds less before it needs emptying, so check it after every heavy rain or fill.
