A chemical feed pump draws a few gallons a day, and the tank behind it is sized to the delivery interval, not the flow: 65 gallons is a week or more of feed on most metering duties, small enough to carry in on a hand truck, tall enough to keep the pump's suction flooded to the last inches. The 3/4 inch outlet and the 8 inch lid
- Outlet: 3/4 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, at the base; the size a metering pump's suction line wants, with a flexible connector to the pump and an isolation valve at the tank.
- Access: 8 inch threaded, vented lid, 46 inches up; wide enough for a suction lance or a float, a funnel or a drum pump's hose.
- Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
On a day tank the outlet feeds the pump directly, so the isolation valve at the bulkhead is what lets the pump be serviced without draining the tank; mount the pump below the outlet so it primes by gravity. A low-level float or a weight on the suction lance stops the pump before it draws air. Keep the lid closed against vapor and evaporation, label the tank with the one chemical it holds, and set it in a spill tray where the floor drains to somewhere it should not.
Where a 65 gallon 1.9 tank works
The day tank on a coagulant or a polymer feed at a small water plant, the chlorine solution tank on a well site, the acid or caustic day tank at a boiler room, a brine tank for a softener where the standard brine tank is the wrong size, a bench mix tank in a lab, and the supply tank on a pilot skid. Not a water tank; a 65 gallon water tank is a cheaper wall.
