Snyder Industries 70 Gallon Black Heavy Duty Vertical Storage Tank

Black in the 1009000 shell, not black in the 1007200

There are two black 70s in the Snyder line and the difference is the shell. The 1007200C34 is black at the same 23 inches across and the same 30 pounds, one inch taller at 42 inches, molded in Merced, California, with no lid field on its sheet; this 1009000C34 is one inch shorter, lists an 8 inch lid, and comes out of Lincoln. Buy this one when the tank will sit east of the Rockies, when the shelf above it is tight to the inch, or when the specification wants a lid opening the sheet names. Against the natural white tank in this same 1009000 shell, which we list separately, the black wall is the pick for hypochlorite and any other liquid that degrades in light; the price is that it hides the level, so a sight tube or a sender is the gauge, and it runs warmer in the sun than white, so it stays out of a south window. Against the cross-linked 1007200N42, the question is only whether the specification asks for cross-linked polyethylene; at 70 gallons and 1.9 the linear wall already carries a dense liquid. Seventy gallons at the rating is 1,109 pounds on a 23 inch circle, nothing for a slab or a steel stand, but the surface must be flat and level so the tank does not rock on its bulkhead fitting, and where the liquid is regulated a tray or berm sized to the tank goes under it. The 1007200 rows are the other 70 gallon shell in three walls, each rated as its own sheet says. The 1550000C26 is a natural 65 on a 24 inch circle at 46 inches, listed at 85 pounds where the 70s are 30, which the sheet gives and we print. The 5690100N42 is the cross-linked 90 at this tank's own 41 inch height on a 34 inch circle, for a bench with room to the side and none above.

Lid, vent and the dark headspace

• Vent and fill: the 8 inch lid is the fill opening and the vent. A tank this size is filled from a hose, a drum pump or a carboy, and the lid opening passes the air a hand fill displaces; on draw-down the lid must breathe or the pump pulls a vacuum, so it sits loose enough to pass air and tight enough to keep dust and rain out. Put the hose end below the rim so a dense liquid does not splash the wall above the liquid line.
• Headspace: fill to the shoulder. A black wall hides the level and the headspace band, so this is the tank where a light goes in at every fill and the wall above the liquid line gets looked at, not assumed.
• Outlet: 1 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the base. Name the liquid at order and the fitting, gasket and bolting are matched to it, with a short flexible connector to a valve carried on the stand.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Three feet five inches of head over a 1 inch outlet gravity-feeds a metering pump or a day-tank line; set the tank on a stand so the pump inlet sits below the outlet and it runs flooded to the last inch. Because the wall is black, a sight tube off the outlet tee or a small level sender is not optional; an operator cannot see 70 gallons go to ten through this wall. Keep the outlet clear, the chemical's name on the wall, and the lid on. A tank this small freezes solid in one cold night in an unheated room, so it lives indoors or is traced and drained before a hard cold.

Hypochlorite day tanks and dark dose feeds

One person can carry 30 pounds, but two carry it by the body without touching the fitting. Fill it with water to the shoulder once and hold it, watching the base fitting for a weep, then drain and dry it before the chemical goes in.
